Question How bad is this??

I drove around with this for a few test runs, trying to figure out why I was getting some knock issues. No redlining, but a few pulls. Car drove fine just cruising around and no idle problems or anything. It might have been the cause of the knock I was getting on these logs. Haven't driven the car since.

Is it at top dead center? Is the crank pulley lined up?? It looks like if u turn it some more it will be lined up.

Sorry... i guess the pics does not give a good angle, but the exhaust cam gear notch is actually lined up to the mark on the valve cover. But the intake (near firewall) cam gear notch is slightly to the left of the valve cover mark. It looks to be about 1 tooth or 1/2 a tooth off on the intake gear.

Had cams installed and timing belt maintenance done, and drove around a bit before I re-checked and found the situation with the cam gears. The other thread shows logs, after reflash, on how the car was driving. I haven't driven since, cause I'm not sure if I have done major damage to the car at this point.

if the crank is really really close to being lined up, the cam gears should be really really close too, the last 2 evo's I did timing belts on were like that, the marks didn't line up perfectly. But you know if its off a tooth, one mark will be way off. If you had the timing belt done too (or it was re-done) you should probably look into if the oil pump balance shaft (assuming you still have it) is in phase correctly, if its not, that may be your knock issue, OR if a lifter could have been damaged due to the cam install. Sometimes they are fine without being bled, but back in the day I had a couple litters blow out after HKS cam install on my dsm. Or if they aren't bled right, they can be damaged too.
I'd take the car back to where you had the work done and see what they say.

IIRC, 17 teeth is the proper distance between marks on the gears. How many miles are on the timing belt?

9sec240:
Timing belt is new, replaced with the rest of the t-belt maintenance items @ 61K miles.

Evo8luva:
Lifters were bled and I will have the oil pump balance shaft looked at again. I know that with the stock cams, the notch on the cam gears were dead center. But now the intake cam gear is lined in-between 2 teeths, which is a bit hard to see in the pics.

For sure the marks in the lower timing cover areas were lined up, before we closed everything up. Also the tension on the t-belt is good. Hopefully the evo is ok. I'm thinking about driving to buschur or AMS to get things sorted and get a dyno tune. But i'm just not sure about driving for 3 to 5 hrs with the car like this.

just FYI i included the log from the other thread, on this post.
