Unhappy Rattling MIVEC - Help!

Greetings Guys..

Been silent for a while building the new setup and we have been encountering a very weird problem with the Mivec gear, here goes:

- My block is a 4G64, 2.1liter destroked from Slowboy racing
- We got new oil pump and new water pump
- More mods show down in my signature but they're irrelevant to the problem

-What we're having is a very loud rattle at engine revving and engine rpm drops in the area of the Mivec gear.. We changed the timing belt which I got from GSC for the 4G64

-I've changed he MIVEC gear, thinking it is bad but the same rattle appeared again.

-I've checked the solenoid on a direct battery source, it is working.

-We've air pumped the orifices and the oil lines in the cams and the head, they're all clear.

-We've found that the strainer filter before the head feed is clean

-The pipe feed to the head from the block is stock

-The check valve bolt is stock and is adapted to the new block by means of an adaptor, surely the adaptor is no culprit since it's just open

Yet with all this, the Mivec gear rattles so much it's not ordinary..

It just seems that there is no oil pressure coming to the mivec! When i removed the head cover, the intake cam is so easy to move back and forth while the gear is just tied steady to the belt. It squirts oil as I move it from one of the holes (maybe return orifice?).

My oil pump guage shows 100-120psi.. I am going to change the check valve bolt tomorrow, maybe it's stuck?

Could it be the solenoid is not working right and closing the feed to the mivec gear?

Any suggestions please?

Thanks,

*Desperate* Wael

the mivec gear normally moves till oil psi builds in the gear .... not sure why it wouldn't build right away tho when you start the car

I am going to dismantle the block and enlarge the opening feeding the MIVEC line to the block. This is what I was told to do since the hole in the 4g64 is very small compared to to the one in the 4g63.

I am also going to change the check valve bolt.

Bombs away...

ok, the check valve is very rare to have deffects.. But if u wanna check it, it's on the block just under the intake manifold on the right side of the block (if u're standing in front of the car), bolts to an oil pipe that goes up to the head.. If u remove it, and u insert a screwdriver into it, u will feel a slight spring action.. If u blow in it u will feel it's a one way valve..

I don't know if it's the same case, but my 4G63 Mivec engine had some power issues, and my mechanic did in fact enlarge the opening feeding the mivec, and it solved the problem. I was boosting 0.8 kg/cm2 before the fix, and after the hole enlarging I hit 1.2 kg/cm2... Just sharing my experience with you, hope it helps
