Help...

I need a favor, heres the scoop:
I live in VA and I was cruising to DTM from Newport News, doing everything right. There was a VA state trooper cruising in the lane next to me and well, you know what happened next. So he comes up to my window and tells me my exhaust was too loud and my "tinted" license plate cover is illegal. Well, I have an Espelir JGT500 and it is street legal and my license plate cover was purchased from Advance Auto. So, I removed the cover and now I need to prove either my exhaust is legal or I replaced it with the OEM one. My question is: DOES ANYONE HAVE THE PAPER THAT CAME WITH THE ESPELIR JGT500 THAT STATES ITS 50 STATE EMISSION LEGAL AND LESS THAN 94 DB??? I would really appreciate a copy of this!

do you have the stock exhaust available? also if they dont do a Db check when they fine you then I would go to court. If they didnt prove it when they pulled you over then they didnt do their job correctly.

Actually the cop is right, if its louder than stock then its illegal. That being said I think that's such a bs law because my bastard of a neighbor goes ripping around in his harley like decibals do not exist.

They don't care in VA. The law states that any change to the exhaust that makes it louder than stock is illegal.

From what the law states...anything other than stock is illegal. If it wasn't original equiptment the he can give you a ticket for an aftermarket exhaust. It's up to you to prove different especially in the Communist State of VA.

hmm..ok...but some cars stock are louder than others...either make your own copy and go to court with it or say that its OEM exhaust...plain and simple...

The only problem with the law is that they can't prove what is or isn't stock, or that it is louder than stock. There are no files or anything anywhere that states what every car had or how it sounded.

The way the law reads if your exhaust rusts off of your escort and you take it to Joe's Muffler shop and have a replacement muffler welded on, its illegal.

The VA law is the biggest bunch of BS. I've had my runins with the staties and county, beat them in court a few times too.

Best way to get out of it is just drop the axle back section off, ziptie the stocker in place, take a picture and revert. Take the pics to court saying you put it back to stock and they will drop the ticket. Just be sure not to drive the car to the court..

Untrue:
Virginia Code 46.2-1049 Exhaust System in good working order:
No person shall drive and no owner of a vehicle shall permit or allow the operation of any such vehicle on a highway unless it is equipped with an exhaust system in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual levels of noise; provided however, that for motor vehicles, such exhaust system shall be of a type installed as standard factory equipment, or comparable to thatdesigned for use on the particular vehicle as standard factory equipment... blah blah blah.

Im going back to stock for for a while...
