What happens if the relay and resistor is removed without doing the rewire?

I assume that if you just removed the resistor and the relay (also assuming you just jumped the removed relay) you would get 12v (maybe 14) but the stock wiring may restrict the amps to the pump. Running the larger 8 or 10 gauge wire would allow a better flow of both volts and amps to the pump.

All that is a mix of what I remember from working on my 3000gt vr4 fuel pump hotwire, and what I remember of the evo's wiring circuit.

I recommend get a retune to utilize the extra fuel flow even if you don't use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator

I just did a rewire to my dw. With the stock fpr I'm getting a crap load of fuel @ idle. Yes the afr is pegged at 16. Reason is because there is too much fuel so the ecu tries to pull as much fuel as possible. This causes what looks like a lean condition but in reality the engine is running rich. To fix this you will need an aftermarket fpr and a retune. See my https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...mp-rewire.html thread in the how to section.

Or you can keep 1 of the resistors and relays in place to keep the idle fuel pump volts at a managable 12v and step it up above the threshold to full battery volts.

But yes, doing a straight wire of 14.4v to the pump will cause you to over run your fuel pressure regulator causing a spike in pressure and a overly rich situation, unless you account for it ahead of the time.
