Just FYI, the bad thing about overfilling it is, if it's too full, the crank will hit the top of the oil, foam it up and maybe starve the engine of oil. But it has to be more than just a little too full for that to happen. Half a quart's not going to do it.

Every Evo will take a different amount to fill to the "full" line. You'll find discrepancies in all engines. Ever have to install a dipstick tube? A couple mm difference in where the dipstick tube sits in the block could equate to the dipstick reading 1/2 quart too low. Don't sweat the slight overfill.

5 quarts seems to be the norm for every DSM/Evo. My Laser RS Turbo called for 4.8 but 5 quarts of Mobil 1 went in every time and to this day it runs as smooth as when I bought it. Same with my Evo, 5 quarts of Amsoil every time. I expect the same results if not better...

The separate evo manual lists the oil pan capacity as 4.8 (4.83 I believe) quarts and the oil filter capacity as .3 (.32) quarts. There's also the oil cooler capacity to keep in mind.
