Exclamation Blown transfer case prevention tips

I was searching around for some tips on maintaining my Transfer case while still being able to have fun. I wasnt able to find any thread dedicated to tips and theories on saving transfer cases from our abuse, so I thought I'd start one.

Here is a few things I've heard:

1.Change fluids regularly, and use proper fluids.

2.Use same size tires all around.

3.making sure you rotate your tire.

4.Heard ride the clutch vs dropping when racing helps.

5.Upgrading an open front diff to a front LSD.

6.Only launch when you need to.

That's all I've got right now. I really hope to get a lot of input. All theories are welcomed.

I don't know too much about this area but I think the best thing to have/do is having a front LSD like you said. Preferably helical (which stock stock evos are).

A clutch type is probably less strain on the drivetrain because it's clutch of course. But clutches can wear out over time. Maybe clutches in a LSD dont?

So pretty much just launch when your drag racing, because I dont think you need to launch when autocrossing, and other forms of track racing.

The front LSD from one of the evo models you speak of or a quaife

I believe so. Most people recommend replacing our stock 03' diffs with a stock LSD out of an 05' Evo if you dont want to spend alot on an aftermarket one.

Just sent mine off to Shep along with my trans. I got about 7 hard launches at the track before the input of the T-case broke. Getting the stage 3 build with the quaife, I was told the carriers in the ACD cases are kind of weak and that it's pretty common to break them so I didn't want to waste my time replacing it with the same part!

Think I'll try slipping the clutch a little more next time though!

If you race, you're gonna break something eventually. It's the nature of the beast. All those little tips you posted really don't mean jack because it ultimately depends on the driver.
