I have a 2003 Evo 8 that I use 50% for track - and 50% for street use.
I run road racing circuits such as Pocono, Watkins Glen and VIR.

I want to build up the car for more power and durability, WITHOUT going to a larger Turbo and using the stock turbo. Obviously, cost is a factor.
Can this be done?

My current mods are:
Injen Intake
Turbo Back Exhaust, (Invidia Downpipe, Perrin 3” Evo cat, and Borla exhaust)
Walbro Fuel Pump (stock injectors)
HKS 272 cams
Tune, @ 22-23psi boost
All else on the motor is stock

The car has been dyno’d at 310whp.

What else can I do that is “cost-effective” to get more power?
How much power would I get?
more aggressive cams bigger i/c and piping maybe you can get an ebay one id get the biggest possible. im sure you can find lots of cheap things you can do to gain power. you can also find ways to shave weight maybe jog jk

When you are talking about the FMIC, there really arent to many cheap choices out there. Dave Buschur did an intercooler test a while back, and the BR Race Front mount was the best, AMS Race Version was also good, and The Garret intercooler was also good.

check out s-max intercoolers. very nice guys there, and they have kits that run co2 right through the intercooler making the air temp. drop a lot. its basically like one of the front mount sprayers, but built in. they work great and also come in a variety of sizes.

check out there website:

Put the stock air box back on the car. Road racing with an open filter is not good for power.

Get rid of the cat. You can sell it for scrap on ebay for nearly $200.

Put race gas in the thing and crank up the boost.

I think there is plenty of evidence to support this actually, some of the quickest and fastest stock turbo records are on EVO8 turbos with 10.5 housings.

Replace the stock FMIC prior to considering turbo upgrade also, good gains from the Garrett IC cores.
You sir are MAD MAD MAD crazy! In my experience, in the real world, I have not seen this.....but you mention stock turbo records on the 8 turbo....must investigate now

Perrin, nesei...I have buschur deluxe and like it, but there are bigger cores out there. If I did it again I'd go buschur RACE core and make it fit with stock bumper support.
