FP Green vs FP Red Dyno Results and Review (from my perspective)

Well let me first start by saying that the opinions expressed are based on my experience. I will do my best to answer any questions asked, but keep in mind that I just have a basic knowledge of tuning and matters relating to technical questions

I got my FP Red on Friday and installed it over the weekend. FP said it would take 6 weeks, it took exactly 4 weeks, thanks FP and Machines gone Wild for getting to turbo to me in record time. The install went very smooth just as it went with the green. I must say the turbo is very sexy. The front blade looks as if it is the same size as the Green but the design is VERY different the blades overlap. The back wheel is noticeably larger also with a different design.

The setup is as follows:

Both Red and Green had the following:

3” Exhaust (titanium – I don’t know the brand got it with the car)
Ebay o2 housing
Ebay Intercooler (AMS knock off)
Lower intercooler pipe (Home made)
260 Tomie cams
Stock ECU
Tuner: HS Engineering 1-(876) 383-2005
Snow Perf. Water injection - 100% meth
FP 18 psi actuator

The difference were as follows
Green - 375ml water injection jet Red - 625ml injection jet
- Stock Injector - 880 Precison injectors

As you can see all that is different is the Turbo, Meth Jet and Injectors.

I have attached the Dyno Graphs in word. I have given as many comparison
with the info we have gathered

As you will see, we only went to 28 psi on the red, this is because we developed a leak in the meth line. My tuner told me we had allot more tuning left at the 28 psi as we saw no knock. The boost went to 28psi and fell off to 26psi. The gain on the boost controller needed to be adjusted. He figured that we could get 500 at 30 psi. We made a 485 whp pass at 28 psi but this was with Co2 on the intercooler (I will post those results under a different thread).

We should be fixing the meth leak today and going back to the dyno tomorrow. I will post my 500WHP run WHEN I get it…(wish me luck)

FP Red Review

The FP Red is a fantastic turbo. The spool up is good. It does spool a bit later than the green about 500-700 rpm. With the green the car started to really pull at 4,000 rpm but it tapered off with the rise in RPM. I hit 30 psi with the Green at about 3,600 rpm

The Red starts to really pull at 5,500 rpm but in doesn’t stop. Every gear pulls harder and harder. I hit 30 psi with the RED at 4,300rpm and with the I hit it a 3,900rpm. I was very impressed, the turbo is VERY strong. If I had one word to describe it I would say AWESOME

Part throttle on both turbos are excellent, the Green is a bit more responsive thought but the red is just as good with a HELL OF ALLOT OF TOP END. I can hit 30 psi on both turbos with a 35% throttle.

In sum, in making your decision on the Red vs the Green. In my personal opinion. If you have no intentions of racing the car at a drag strip and you drive allot round town and you do not run over 20 psi I would go with the green. If you have any desire to carry the car to the strip or even a little racing on the street (not recommended) then the RED ALL THE WAY. The red really shines at higher boost. The turbo will make 500 whp

There is only one problem…. How the hell is FP going to top this one.

I welcome questions, comments and feedback.

Great info. Thanks for sharing. Were the 24psi runs on straight pump gas or with meth?

He was using meth but he hasn't said he was on pump or race gas.

All runs are un pump gas. Unfortunately in Jamaica our pump gas is quoted at 90 octane but its actually 88 oct when we tested it.
