3" to 4" filter 60whp gain!

When I was tuning my car this weekend everything was maxed out and I had trouble making more power. Ivo, yes pronounced just like EVO, reminded me that we still had a 3" intake on the car. He swapped the 3" intake for a 4" intake and check out the results! I knew we'd make some more power but not this much more.

37whp peak gains and 60whp gains at redline (8500rpm)! Also the boost jumped up 3psi. The turbo would not make more than 34psi of boost and now it was making 37-38psi. My 3" was a cold air setup but I'm going to have trouble getting the 4" to some nice fresh air, I'll have to work on that.

We use a 4" on ours. I think it was in our pictures.

I was running lower boost and power levels before for our testing (550whp) and back then I had 3" piping going to a 3"-4" coupler at the turbo. I swapped it out for a 4" and it made another 5-8whp at that power level, obviously it wasn't a restriction at that point. Lately we've running up the power level and this weekend trying maxing it out. We swapped the 3" piping and cone filter for a 4" intake pipe with cone filter and this is what we got. Hope that explains it better.

Nice setup but I'm trying to figure out how to snake that 4" piping around the stock radiator. It's going to be tough but I think we can snake it around. I'll look at it closer once I put the new motor in.

I kind of ran into a similar issue on a 2.5" intake pipe and filter. When we went to a true 3" all the way, power picked up. I don't remember the numbers, but it was substantial. The real benefit is when you're trying to pack the air or increase the velocity and total pressure of the fresh air. Bigger becomes better.
