100oct vs E85

Which one is better? which one will make more power? I remember Buschur saying that E85 is really close to C16 and Q-16

Whats your take?

E85 has a higher Octane Rating and should be less prone to knock. Oh and is like 4 dollars cheaper per gallon. 100 octane is like 7.xx here in dirty jerzy

Yes, I would go E85. That is what I am having my GTE lexus tuned for. Its about half the price of 100 octane..then again you use a little more E85..I think about 30% more..still works out being cheaper

Just remember that most states switch their E85 to different blends during the winter.

Usually on the pump it will tell you the minimum octane rating, here in Kansas it say's minimum rating of 105 octane and that is with the E70 blend for winter. I highly suggest to our customers that plan to run this that a wideband with a gauge is highly suggested as well as a tactrix cable to log their car. This way you can see the changes if tuned for one blend and then pumping in another.

If you tune on the E85 blend, and then pump in E70 the car will run richer due to less ethanol in the fuel. Other way around the car will run leaner. The logs will also tell you if you have any knock as well.

Other than this, another approach is an ethanol content gauge that another user of the forum had made. With the addition of a flex fuel sensor you have the ability to visually see how much ethanol content is in your fuel.

Hope this helps.

E85 makes much more power than 100. Some examples:

thank you both, I have an Innovative wideband with the titan motors AFR gauge and I can datalog with Cobb streetRACE. For some reason I though that with E70 I would have run leaner . A friend of mine has the same setup as me but with 100oct .

It depends on what you were tuned for to begin with as far as the mixture goes. Less ethanol content means less pulse width/injector duty in the map and vice versa for more content.

Just switching from 100 octane or pumpgas to E85 with the same boost level and ignition timing, and only dialing in fuel to the desired afr; you'll make more power and torque accross the entire powerband and pick up spool.

Indeed, last couple evos, with the same ign timing, boost and even AFR as pump picked up 20-30wtq just by adding E85

If you have access to E85 its def the better choice just make sure you get 1000cc min injectors and upgraded fuel system.
