^I would think if that’s the part that broke, drivability would be a little more effected. this seems just like the classic case of broken center diff gears.
His symptoms sounds just like the 2 times i broke my center diff gears in my DSM:

That is the pinion that comes off of the TC Ring Gear has the viscous coupler in it for the torque split front and rear. I had an extra one but sold it not too long ago.
The Ring Gear in the TC is attached to a differential that connects to the front wheels, one through the hollow splined shaft coming from the tranny to get to the driver's side wheel, the other goes out the other side of the TC to power the passenger side wheel. These have tested fine. So.... If its not the rear diff or VC then we have to move to the tranny. The TC ring gear is directly driven by a hollow spline coming out of the Transmission. That hollow spline is connected to the final drive in the tranny.
But we have eliminated the spider gears.... here is a picture of his (POSTED IN LOCAL FORUM):

Neg. I didnt' have enough jack stands to get the rear up in the air, since the SRT is on a set also waiting for a new turbo. I'm picking up another set tonight. That and I just ran out of time with removing the front diff, and fixing the dail driver and running around picking up tools and parts.

image below is the exploded diagram of the "center diff" inside your transmission. #7,11 is what is most likely broken on yours.

No I have not had the time at all to pull the tranny, but I'm also thinking the center diff gears are what broke also. I drained the rear diff. today and the oil came out dirty but not much for metal shavings and no chunks. No grinding noises from the rear end, if you turn the drive shaft on wheel spins and if you turn the other wheel the drive shaft spins.
