determining b.o.v type

I bought an evo VIII a week ago. It has an hks intake and an aftermarket bov.

It has a stuttered release, kinda like a hyena laugh if I was full throttle. It has a generic looking "T" shape, I cannot find any labels, lettering or even coloring to make it unique.

Fairly confident I am going to replace this with a proper diverter valve, but I'd like to know what I have first.

Any ideas?

thanks

doesen't have a horn shape. can't visualize the return lines at the moment, but i remember wondering whether or not it was a VTA, sounds like one, but doesen't quite look it mechanically.

Is it possible that a diverter could be this loud with the intake i have? Looking at pictures the closest thing that resembles it, is something like the works or tomei recirculating valves.

anyway, my turbo knowledge is low. I'll get some pictures.

i'm a bit confused, took another look at the b.o.v, under good lighting this time, and it is black plastic. Could this be the stock one? I'm getting confused, going to try to get a good picture today.

almost forgot about this thread,
I have my camera in my car now, just cant manage to remember to take a picture. and besides the point or threads like this is to waste time while i'm working

how would i tell if it is installed backward? (i guess this is easier with a pic)

How could i determine whether it is compressor surge? (ill do a search as well)
it only has the "fluttering" sound at partial throttle. I've read that this is the way a stock bov will sound with an open intake.

is compressor surge dangerous?

It sounds to me like compressor surge. Maybe they have the wrong spring in it or you need to adjust it from the top where that T is most likely. Pic's as stated above will help. Yes with an open filter intake it will be really loud even with a divertervalve.

8's are plastic. They work well under 20# of boost. With the HKS or Aem style intakes you will hear it release. This is normal. I have never heard of a stock one surging. Pictures...
