Plugs on oil filter housing

Hi

There are two plugs on the oil filter housing.
I was told that there is a bit of difference in where they are in the oil stream.
Anyone here that has information on this ?

I pulled one of the plugs out (not sure which one I did) to put my oil temperature sensor. I believe it was the one near the oil pan. They're on there tight, I had to make a special breaker bar just to break them loose.
