Upgrading Evo 9 trans to Evo 8 4th and 5th gearing

I currently have an Evo 9 trans in my car which has been built by shep. Don't ask me why I didn't just get the Evo 8 4th and 5th while it was there thats another story.

Reason why I'm upgrading is because I ran at the track 2 weekends ago and even with me loosing traction all of first and some of second I still trapped 120mph in 4th @ 8k. I don't have a built engine and don't plan on building it anytime so getting the Evo 8 4th and 5th gear would be a huge help and fit my power level perfectly.

Anyway like I said I have an Evo 9 trans in my car, but if I had shep put in the Evo 8 4th and 5th it really wouldn't be the Evo 8 4th and 5th because the final drive wouldn't be an Evo 8 right? What would have to be done to get the correct ratios that would put me at approx 130mph in 4th @ 8k.

Sorry I don't really know that much about transmissions and was just curious. What do you guys think?

-thanks

think evo 8's that shep does are 3 and 4th,, not 5th, but i might be mistaken.

I'm doign the same thing in about a week or so.. except I'm getting double synchro 5th too.

5th is definitely higher already found this out.

I'm getting a double synchro'd 5th as well. Mine was built by shep and now grinds 5th every 5 shifts or so...seems like the synchro is missing a couple teeth. I dunno just getting it built stronger and better.

You should NOT be using 5th gear to race. You want the Evo 8 3rd and 4th for drag racing and run out 4th crossing the finish. The only possible reason you want the Evo 8 5th gear is for better fuel economy for lower rpms during cruising.

....I know this your not telling me anything I don't know already.

Now the Evo 9 5th gear is shorter then the Evo 8th 5th gear. They had to shorten it since they shortened the evo 9 4th gear. Thus the Evo 8 should technically be better for fuel economy but I'm not doing it for that reason. The Evo 9 5th is only good for 160 @ 7300ish rpms while the Evo 8th will be doing about 171ish.

If your looking to get an 8 5th gear but not for fuel economy reasons I fail to see your point as to why.

IX 4th gear with my tires was 8200 at 119mph trap.

VIII 4th gear is now 7750 at 122 with the same tires.

With the 8 5th you should come out to Nevada for the Silver State next september

So you gained 3mph in the 1/4 mile with just changing to the VIII 4th? No power additives or anything like that.
