Different sized tires

I had to replace my 2 front tires. I bought a pair from a guy locally. Unfortunately I didn't notice they were 235/40s instead of 45s. I didn't notice this until after they were mounted and now the store is closed. Am I going to damage the tcase/diffs by driving like this? I know this isn't good but it's my dd and will take a couple days before I can it worked out. Thanks.

I wouldn't drive for very long like that! Your front/rear wheels will be spinning at different speeds and your transfer case can only take up so much of the difference before damage occurs.

That's what I figured. I called the guy from the store and told them to keep the tires and i'm going to have them remounted tomorrow and go from there. Thanks.

You have an AWD car; replace tires in sets of 4.

it is possible that they will cause damage to your drivetrain

not only does it matter that they are different sizes but the wear on the tires matter too

Yeah I know. I was just going to replace the two until I could get the money for what I want or possibly new wheels/tires. The guy said they were 45s and I didn't think to look when I picked them up.

Inflate the tires with smaller diameter to higher psi. You can mark the wheels while adjusting psi until they all end up at same place after several rotations. Just to get ya through the week til you have a complete set. You'll be suprised on the amt of difference psi has on tire circumference

you should have bought my tires so you wouldnt have this problem! haha just kidding my man. +1 on the different psi, if you are careful and mark the tires properly you should be able to adjust the pressure so it alleviates some of the strain on you t-case. but as you already no its still not great. good luck with getting them all squared away.

I was thinking the same thing. The guy I got them from is going to take them back. I've decided just to suck it up and buy a whole new set tomorrow morning. I'd rather just suck it up now than have to buy drivetrain parts later.

yup thats the right thing to do. tires are pricey, but not compared to a new t-case right? what tires did you decide to go with for the set?

My stock advans lasted 18,000 miles. I put $100 (ea) fusion zRi's on there and there due, but I got 45,000 miles on them. They hooked better too
