The only motors that technically were "plagued" with crankwalk were the 4G63's the 2nd gen eclipse's (95-99) and not even all of them dealt with it. More like 20-40% of modded 2nd gens dealt with it.

Since then, there have been few reported issue's. On evos, there is one or two here and there, but to real pattern like there used to be.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I agree, As my first post reads. But I believe its safe to assume hes referring to the DSM era, and the 4g63 in particular

It's cool hopper, don't worry about it! This is why this forum is here. Also, if there is a case of crankwalk, how are you able to tell and how long does it take to destroy the thrust bearing?

Under warranty if something like this happens? Does the entire engine assembly need to be replaced?

that one did. it was still uner warr too. but i would think that the crank would get damaged and that block to. depending how bad the damage is, a machine shop might be able to repair it possibly

I wouldn't even be thinking about crankwalk. Yes, it can happen. You know what else can happen? You could walk out of your house an be hit by a heat seaking missle. See my point?

Well the entire assembly is sooner or later attached. Usually the first sign of crankwalk is some nasty engine noise. and your clutch will start acting goofy. Sticking to the floor not releasing.

I had two 4g63 motors crankwalk on me in my 2nd gen eclipse. Both times the machine shop told me they were trashed. Oversized paperweights.

I've only seen it happen on a friends GSX from a loooong time ago. I have heard it was from lugging the motor, and use of really heavy clutches in the older 4g's

This is hearsay, please dont except my word as truth. I'm sure more experienced dsm'ers could tell you if this is true or now.

The only evo engines that have had reported issues with crankwalk are the evo1-4 engines, mitsi redesigned the thrust bearings on the evo5 engines and I haven't heard of any problems since then.
