brake pedal revs engine

Tonight I drove my car from work to a Christmas party, everything was working perfectly. I went to leave the party and my check engine light was on along with all my ACD lights. All three lights on the ACD were solid, the lights then go to tarmac after a little bit and every time I hit the break the light switches to the gravel, then snow, and then back to tarmac and just keeps cycling.

When I hit the brake pedal it revs my engine. It will rev to about 3000 rpms until I release my foot from the brake. Other than my brake pedal pretending to be my gas pedal the car runs very smooth. Its not until I have to come to a complete stop and then start again from 1st gear the engine stutters, im assuming its doing that because it takes about 8 seconds for the rmps to wind down after taking my foot off the break so if I try to shift from first or second after holding the brake in the car is still winding down while im applying gas which is making the entire car just start jerking. I dont know its really hard to explain, I tried to the best of my ability. Anybody have any information or experience with an issue like this? I would appreciate any help at all!

Thanks!

I've had a few customers lately come into the shop with the brake pedal issue, lot's of people putting floormats in their car for the winter and not checking to see if they are under or over the pedals...kind of hard to tell them with a straight face that their floormat was causing their issue!

As for the ACD I really can't say, could be a lot of different things, any dtc's?

I wish I was just a complete moron and my problem was floormats, man what a relief that would be, I know where you're coming from though...working at a computer repair shop people call with some really ridiculous problems like "my computer has been frozen for 4 hours what do I do...well have you tried powering it off and back on?" or my favorite "my computer wont power on" "oh really...are you sure its plugged in?"

Hah, anyway as far as the DTC's...I need to get it scanned, im sure there is going to be a definine code popup considering my check engine light is on and my ACD lights are going whacky. My main concern is why the hell the brake pedal is acting like its a gas pedal...

I've had the battery disconnected for about 4 hours now, my friend said some cars take up to 6 hours for a full reset(just heresay) so I just left it off. Prior to leaving it off I did take it off and waited about 10mins and put it back on and the brake was still giving the car gas. I'll let you know the results right after I connect the battery back, thanks for the advice!

Im not sure what your issue is, but as a tidbit of information, things like the power steering and power brakes require engine output to function. As in if you pay attention to your car idling after being warm, the idle will rise when pressing firmly on the brakes or moving the wheels. My only point being that the car may be over compensating for boosting the brakes. Good old low torque four bangers Good luck!

I had a similar issue about a month or so ago. The wires from my MAF plug in were exposed and were grounding out on my fan shield thing.

I would get the code read so you know whats going on.

it would not cause it to rev up to 3 grand tho maybe at most a few hundred rpm.
I would have got the codes checked out before trying to clear out everything. I would also try going tho and checking all your vac line. mainly just check the one going to the brakebooster.. I doubt thats the problem but you never know...

This is just a guess but I'd say it is the brake booster. When the brakes are applied vacuum from the intake manifold is vented to the diaphragm in the booster. If the diaphragm is holed that’s extra air going to the engine. It would make the engine act up too because it would be going lean.

As for the ACD - dunno.

Hey,i have this same problem just started happening to me last week and today.I push the brake pedal in and the engine revs to 2500-3000 rpm.Only difference is that my acd lights dont come on.I searched and found this https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ease-help.html it seems that my car is the 3rd Evo IX MR to have this issue.I hope its not another common problem like the IX timing belt issue, which i also have.

Thinking back on it now both times this is happend involved me washing my car and rain.
I hope its not the wiring problem that i read about.
