3" or 3.5"

Hey guys i have an evo 8 with 9 turbo, full exhaust and 02 housing, hks 272 cams, cam gears, and hks intake. I am now doing intercooler and i am looking at the ETS intercooler and the New ETS LP2(LICP). I dnt know if 3" is good or if i need to go with a 3.5". I dnt plan on doing a 35r or anything. Let me know what yal think. Thanks.

not quite sure but i think the 3.5 will slow u down from getting to ur full boost faster.
u will need more time to fill up the ic this way.

I'm testing my 4.5" core tomorrow up at HPT North of town. I'll be posting the results in another thread. But having spoken with the Man about this exact issue, he says the difference in volume to see a really noticeable effect on spool or full boost rpm would have to be much more sizable than just a 1/2' increase in the thickness of the core. One instance when pre-throttle plate volume is a serious issue is on supercharged/intercooled cars. We have had cars that experienced up to 2 full seconds of lag from opening the throttle, to the engine being able to spin the supercharger fast enough to fill the FMIC and pipes. Makes for a crappy launch off the line and when it does it breaks the wheels loose anyway.

Also consider than when switching from a tube/fin core to a bar/plate core, the internal volume goes way up anyway, even if the dimensions are left alone. Going from my stock core to my huge core, I expect to see some change in spool characteristic, but it is bigger in every dimension to the factory core by a wide margin.

If you are not planning on going with a much bigger turbo/setup a ETS 3" should be just fine.

Plenty of stock turbo cars run the 3.5" cores with no problems regarding spool. With that said you should be fine with the 3" as stated above.

I went from a generic 3in to a ETS 3.5 and there was no difference in spool whatsoever

I have seen other thread on this, someone posted spool differences between cores and if I am not mistaken determined this thru a calculation--so mathmatically..difference was around
.5 sec in spool. Go with the 3"

3" is more than fine for a stock turbo, even with higher boost.
