Its not a straight PIN to PIN cable. This is what most of the obdii cables consist of:

The voltages are not at the RS232 level so this circuit corrects them. Plus the running baud rate of the OBDII interface is 10.4kbps.

I believe your referring to a serial cable?
check out www.pocketlogger.com I use this product dayand night, however he is trying to get it to record knock sums but can't seem to and is taking input if anyone can figure out how

I made a OBDII to 9 pin D male cable using the pinout from http://scantool.net/obdii_cable.htm and it does seem to work. Anyone tired it?

I also have a friend who makes his own cables and uses TMO's logger which is an awsome unit, but i have yet to try it on an Evo. It works beautifully on other vehicles though many different items to log.
