That said, I think a better set-up idea -- with far less plumbing required -- would be a compound turbo. Basically that is a small turbo blowing into a large turbo. The best of both worlds -- very quick spool and very big HP.

I have seen with my own two eyes this exact type of setup on a DD evo here in Los Angeles. It was a event called Jtuned in Irwindale speedway. Some pacific islander guy had it on his Blue By You evo.

Should have tooken pictures but it was raining...Ohwell...

FOR YOU ANSWER YES IT CAN BE DONE SUCCESSFULLY.

There's a couple DSMs running Compound setups. Kevin Jewer's blue RWD 1G that was at the e-town shootout runs a compounds setup and has gone 8s. Another guy just got done putting together a 16g and 60-1 setup:

The guy is really smart. I did try to argue with him on the turbo selection,(I think he should have gone bigger on the big turbo, the e316g is fine but the 60-1 is a little small should have done at least a 6262 or 6765).
Also with the right fuel you can run a LOT of boost (in the 120psi range) with just 2 turbos. I had wanted to do this for forever but didn't want to have to do meth. I am also hoping to get my 2g running with a VGT next year (already have the turbo) and have just as good or better boost response and more power all in one turbo. ;-)

I've been running compound turbos for a little while now, here's a vid of the first two run.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhiKLm9E6UA

That was at 40 psi. I'm set to 45 now, waiting for a track rental to see what happens when I put that power to the ground. The turbos are barely working at all.

Hey Kevin, I didn't realize you had an EVO. I talked to you at e-town, I was with Carl, the guy who was helping you zip tie the hoses.

Yup, had one for 4 years. I sold it this past spring to get a better tow vehicle for the RWD. At the track friday I turned up the boost and blew that same line off, lol. Time for some AN lines.

Saw Kevins car on sunday. Very cool set-up. I now know what I want to do to my 2.4 liter.

Well I think twin turbos were made for V6 engines since the engine bay is obviously bigger.
A bigger single turbo on the evo is a hassle with lack of bay space. I think its is impossible to fit two turbos with even the stock manifold let alone headers.

Compound turbos are possible on an EVO with some creative packaging. Don't make me buy a ****box beater EVO and make it happen. I'm already tempted to compound turbo my 88 Mightymax as it is.
