PCV and Breather Blowby in oil catch cans

I have an oil catch can on both my PCV valve and on the breather on the valve cover.

lately I've been getting quite a bit of blowby and it's accumulated pretty quickly

Most of the blowby comes from the breather on the valve cover - could this mean bad valve seals?

Only a little bit comes from the PCV valve itself - but still enough to concern me.

I've heard that you will get more blowby during the winter time because the cold air allows the vapors to condense which will let you catch more liquid.

the blowby looks like chocolate milk lol, and smells like crap.

is the best way to check this just to do a compression test or leakdown test?

please let me know ya'lls opinions

thanks,
John

BTW: nothing drastic as in the oil dipstick popping out has happened (BUT I havent been in boost at all lately since my car is untuned for the new stuff on it)

In your case - yeah - maybe it is just condensation evaporating out. Hope for the best.

I don't use catch cans so I can't offer personal experience on this one but... if it were me - I would not worry about it right now. Especialy since it seems to have started once the weather got cold. Just keep an eye on the oil level and see if it gets better once the weather warms up. That's what I would do.

You can't say you have bad seals without doing a compression and leakdown test.

Otherwise i would say that you may have a defective PCV or clogged line.

Try using MAPerformance Krank Vents. They solved all my issues.

hey ya'll I'm going to do a compression test later when my friend gets off work...it's a lot easier to do a compression test when ya have 2 people.

BTW I have never replaced the PCV valve in the 70000 miles since I've had the car.

also, the way my oil catch can is setup, it goes from the pcv valve - to the catch can - and to the ground.

breather - to catch can - to the ground

does the PCV valve require vaccum to work properly?

I had this recently, I found by doing a oil change including engine flush and empting the CC, in my case resolved this.

I cannot offer a reasonable explanation but since this blowby has reduced/eliminated.

Ok ya'll I tested compression with the motor warm and the gas pedal to the floor like your supposed too here are the results:

cylinder 1: 170
cylinder 2: 165
cylinder 3: 165
cylinder 4: 170

so I'm thinking as far as compression that I'm good. so I'm guessing the rings are fine. What do ya'll think?

I have read that oil can get clogged up in the turbo lines thus causing this too.

Yah i checked my breather on my car and it was soaked, i will probably need to make a catch can for it, i am having the same probablmy with the OP so i am hoping it is just the cold weather, i myself had chocolate milk on my breather lol.
