From HTA35R to Full Race Borg Warner Setup

Hello All,

This past week we started working on a friends car pulling off his old setup and going with the Twin Scroll BW Setup.

Now a little background on this car. This is an Evo 8 and it was built by Dave B in Ohio. The customer lives in New Mexico so I have been helping him tune for the past little while.

The previous set up was a BR2.3 with BR Stage 3 head HTA 35R and supporting mods.

The car before made about 580 on a dyno jet at 32psi on Pump+ Meth. The car is put together VERY well and no doubt another fantastic build from Dave.

He decided he wanted to go with more power so we opted to try out the new Borg Warner Twin Scroll setup from Full Race. This turbo is about the equivalent of a Garrett 40R but it looks huge lol.

Some initial pics:

We just need to finish up getting the wastegates put on and dump tubes built and the car will be ready to start. I imagine I will have initial numbers later today.

The car before built 30psi by approximately 4200 RPM's. The only downfall of the previous set up is the HTA 35R had a very small DSM hotside on it thus the reason for the quick spool, but it killed upper RPM power.

Stay Tuned,

Mitch Mckee

I will get as much info as I can. I will have spool up comparison's and all.

I can say that Full Race quality never ceases to amaze me. Everything down to the downpipe is just amazing quality.

I am interested in the results as I have had my eye on a few BW turbos, but its not really a fair comparison at all the the 35r if it was in the bolt on dsm housing. Don't you agree?

I do agree. He was just looking for more power with quick spool and this turbo kit fit the bill.

Even with the smaller housing the HTA still made great power.

I was very interested in one of the larger gt42 style BW turbos, but talking to several people, they were having alot of failures with these turbo's over 30 psi. Just thought I would let you know not to push the turbo to hard.

I think they were doing something wrong. Ive seen BW turbos prove to be reliable as hell, even in high boost.

I think it was AL or Mike @ AWD said he won't use the BW cause after 50 lbs them seem to blow up. But then again who would be running 50 lbs
