Go HKS, they make power, others are not even close.

Go 264/264 for a simple bolt on and near stock opperation and a true 25WHP accross the board.

264/272 for a slightly agressive idle, but even more topend.

272/272's can be done but need to be tuned properly.

The JUN make a LOT more power than the HKS - BUT - you'll need a stand alone ecu with the JUN 272

The HKS can live on the factory ecu although the idle is rougher than stock

The JUN is not functional

cams..

Al,

More info on the jun cams if you please anything first hand is especially appreciated... I know you can get away with the hks and the stock ecu. Bit conservative for me. I am looking at the jun's any more info would be appreciated.

Looking for broadening my powerband- 450 at the wheels as wide as possible. Thinking about a custom grind I have had luck in the past with this.

BTW great time: 2003 EVO 11.62 @ 121.27

PEACE,

Mark

The JUN 272 will not idle with the stock ecu unless you retard the timing by 6 degrees - then it will idel but its rough

Ive been selling JUN cams for few months now and 272 are not good for a daily driver, those are designed mostly for racing/drag racing, cars 450HP+ and a programable ecu, most of people buy 264's 10.5 lift, no problems with idle whatsoever. Huge gains with proper tuning.

Do you need cam gears to run 264's? Or can you just drop them in and go?

I think with high performance cams you always need cam gears to adjust timing, but most people still buy cams only and just drop them in.
With 272's its impossible to idle unless you adjust timing.
264's are great for a daily driver, huge gains with proper tuning.

JUNcams are much more agressive, JUN 264's make as much power as hks 272's, but with better idle

Ok, let me preface my questions by saying I'm NOT an engine genius - I'm still learning a lot from the forums and the local club. That being said, let me proceed...

The HKS 264s have an advertised lift of 10.2 and 272s have a 10.8 lift. If the Jun 264s are 10.5, would they make for a happy compromise between the HKS 264 and 272 for the intake side? Of course, that assumes that cam grinds can be mixed and matched between manufacturer which is another question I'm a little unclear on. Anyone have any answers?

Josh Im not aware of anyone trying to mix hks and JUN, but because of different manufacturing processes that might now work out too well. I emailed jun about 264/272 combos and they dont recomment such set up, but it seems to be working for few people out there with hks cams, if you want a daily driver go with 264's. Full race cars 272's

Maki,

Are the Jun 264's like Jun's cams for the VTEC, as in you MUST install their valve spring kit with it? Just wondering how much money one would need to spend for the cams. Thanks.

you got pm

both hks and jun recomment using racing springs with high performance cams, but stock springs will work too.
