If I recall correctly, Buschur charges $1000 labor for the same job. For the amount you'll end up spending with your tuner, you can probably upgrade at Buschur. I'd give them a call to find out what the final cost would be. $1800 sounds like a rip-off to me.

Shipping works too. I'd trust BR more than 'your shop', unless they too are very familiar w/Evo's/4g63's.

Then, if the $1800 includes labor and minor misc. then I'd go with your local shop, if not then BR seems to be a better option, unless the shipping kicks it all the way up to that $1800 price.

well first off sorry to hear about ur situation!!

I had a 03 that part of the #4 piston broke off, and is what i did was take off the head and the oil pan and oil pickup tube and that flate oil splash plate. Then i took off one rod cap off at a time and poped out the piston (be sure not to nick the crank with the rod studs).. Then put the other piston and rods in or just do ur rings and get a ring compressor and pop it back in, and torque the rod cap to 15 footpounds +90 degree turn, make sure to use plasti gauge to make sure ur bearings are still in spec.

In my case i bought used rods and pistons cause i also was like you at that time in my lofe where i couldnt afford to buy new stuff. So i got those for 80 shipped and the rod bearings were like new yet so i reused them and had a perfect .002 clearance on them.

As for makeing the rings seal just coat the cylinder walls with oil befor you put the head back on, unless you see some inpropper wear on the walls.

So parts cost.

used pistons and rods $80.00
new head gasket. $80.00
i had arp head studs so i didnt need new head studs
oil change $40.00
collant $16.00
and did the work in about 8-10 hours while the motor was in the car with no problems what so ever.

wish i lived closer to you so i could help you and save you a sh** ton of cash!!

I am not convinced that there is anything wrong with the rings.

How does the Tuner know its the rings. Last time i recalled EvoScan didn't have a means to log Piston Rings.
