No i didn't get any whine
If it's whineing you have to check the rear diff and the T-case just in case to see if there's a problme in both

I have the death whine. Have had it for about 60-70,000 miles. Not sure if it's the transfer case or the rear diff, both fluids show no signs of metal shavings. I only really commute with the car in the winter otherwise I'm on the motorcycle. It's hard to justify sinking $2500+ into an Evo with 135,000 miles so I've just been dealing with it. I may try and do something with it this summer but need to look at if I'd be better off spending the money on the Evo or simply putting a down payment on a new car. The Evo will need some work on the heater controls, death whine transfer case, death whine rear diff or both, Tein Flex suspension is due for a rebuild and it needs a new BOV since the stock one leaks at full boost when it's warm out. It also needs an IAC motor, and potentially cam/crank sensors. $5k is a pretty decent down payment on a new non-mitsubishi AWD turbo rig.

well, let them replace your tranny, then tell them its the tcase! free new rear end! free new transmission! then you will get a free new tcase!!!

what i would do, take the new tcase out the second you get it and ship it off to shepherd and have them set the lash, it will prolong the life and durability, the stock tcase has too much lash... they will probly only charge like 100-200 bucks!

i just put in a Tcase with 14k miles (built with LSD) and now i have the whine!? only from prob 60 to 45 decellerating its pretty annoying and changes its tone as it gets slower. i did notice that after 2 days of driving i had maybe 2 drops coming out of the "tail" of the tcase where it connects to drive shaft. could this be a seal and possibly causing this problem. im also only running lucas oil not easy to get AMSoil same day. suggestions?

Well my 04Rs has the whine that has been described here. I put the car up on the lift and shifted through the gears while my buddy used a stethescope to listen to the Tcase, all four hubs for wheel bearing noise, and the rear diff. We found the rear diff to be the source of the noise. I have a used diff that is on its way and will post again once we have changed it. I suspect that it is the rear diff not only from the noise being localized there, but the fluid that came out of it was Black and had way too many metal shavings/shards on the drain plug. It was so bad we flushed the thing with brake clean then vacume sucked it out before putting in the new diaqueen. The Tcase fluid was slightly discolored, but no shaving on the drain plug. I will let you know if the new/used diff fixes the problem.

John Shepherd @ ShepTrans told me DIAQUEEN fluid ONLY! and if you start getting a whine, get new fluid... TTPE sold me some MT90 for my tcase and rear diff and it destroyed the tcase and burnt the clutched in the rear diff...

DIAQUEEN ONLY!!! and launch CORRECTLY... thats all i can say... =/

Ok here is the update on my rear diff situation. Went to replace the diff with a used diff in excellent condition and found the one in the car felt notchy and just plain bad when I spun the propeller shaft after disconnecting the driveshaft. We installed the new diff and the noise is now gone. The only weird thing is after driving the car today I noticed a swooshing sound after I shut the car off. i have no idea what could be cuasing this, but plan on investigating it further. Dose anyone have any idea what could be cusing it? I will post again once Ive found the problem.
