Death Wine----this time not the front!!
alright..so i bought my RS with a bad death wine in the front...figured its the regular death wine...changed my front diff. to a very very healthy/almost new front diff...and unfortunately the biatch wine is still there..however now the noise is clearly coming from the rear...
questions:
-is it usual for the rear diff to wine?
-since i have a JDM RS (ie) non AYC...will any USDM non AYC rear diff work in my car?
-finally, is there any chance that it is not from the rear diff? (ie could be the drive shaft, axles or any other thing)?
thanks gentlemen in advance..any kind of input is greatly appreciated.
Respect,
Moosa

Sounds often travel around the chassis and from the inside of the car, it's often impossible to locate where the whine is coming from. Shoot it up on a lift and try to replicate the whine there and figure out from the outside where it's coming from. That's the easiest way to not try and replace something that doesn't work again.
About the RS diff - yes, it should fit from any non-ayc car. From what mechanics told me atleast.

excuse my ignorance..but what do you guys mean when you say transfer case? you dont happen to mean gear box do you?
reason i am asking is because we (in this part of the world) usually refer to the transfer case as front diff.
thanks for all the inputs

Lift the car and put it in gear... Put on a helmet and take a parachute with you aswell...
If something whines because it's F'ed up already, it's possible it'll whine with no load on the wheels too - for example, a transfer case whine when it gets loud can be heard from almost anywhere in the car if you're sitting in the car. Once you get out, you'll hear exactly where the noise is coming from. Or you could do like Tom Cruise and do it hanging down from the axles and driving around.

Okay guys so I had the same problem with my 06 MR and everybody was thinking that it had to be the Transfer case because it was whining really bad on decel and when it was in reverse made awful clanking noises. The problem was not the TC at all it was the rear differential. We swapped out the rear diff and since then havent had any whining at all. Hope this helps.

How did you come to that conclusion?
I know you said you changed the center diff but what about the ring/pinion gears in the TC?
I had a terrible whine on decel and started to have a whine all the time......ended up sending the TC to Shep and he had to replace the ring&pinion.
I had initially thought i had a whine coming from the rear end as well but i guess it was transfered through the d/s back to the rear.
I get it back today and will throw it in this weekend so i'll update the other thread that's going around about decel TC noise.
Not sure if this helps at all but another place to take a look.
