850R or better

Hey guy's first I want to let you guy's know that I'm not the most Savy guy's when it comes to the building or tuning of an EVO. I'm slowly learning. My 08 Evo X is my daily driver, but here is my car in question:

I am the original owner of my 06 MR. It has everything, I've spent about 100k so far. but I'm putting in another 15K, in a "Last Upgrade" I currently have a 2.3L AMS stroker, with a 35R. My Car is currently in the shop getting a bunch of upgrades. One of them being the Turbo, I'm currently producing 555AWHP and I want more!

My goal is over 700AWHP on 93, and into the mid 800's on race Gas. My shop was planning on the 37R but now they are liking the 850R after talking with them last night they were telling me that there is an even newer turbo out that's better that outperforms the 850R. It was discussed on the forums I can't remember the name, but would like to see the specs.

I don't want to go up to a 42R because I like to take it out on the streets and I hate the turbo Lag. I'm happy with my 3300rpm spool I currently have. I'm willing to sacrifice it a little for more HP. I do like to drag race it but I like to take it out on joy rides aswell. I want it bullet proof. I'd like to hear your guy's input, and suggestions.

Here is what's getting done, and what I have.

This is some of what's being upgraded this time around:

Cdi setup
Brakes
Triple Plate upgrade
Stage 5 Axles
Full Blown Twin Fuel Pumps w/ AN Line:
1200cc Injectors
Fuel System Labor
37R Turbo
Tune: for 2 maps and switch + Race Gas
3 Speed Scatter Shield
Race Head

What is currently on the car:

2.3 AMS Race motor
Shep Trans Rebuild, conversion 6 speed to 5
Cosworth Cams
Arp Head Studs
Wallbro 255 Fuel pump
Ams 35r Turbo kit
Ams vsr intake manifold
Ams trailing arm buschings
Excedy twin plate clutch
Ams upper intercooler piping
tial blow off valve
Apexi N1 exhaust system
1000cc injectors
smc water injection kit
hks dli ignition box
kw variant 3 coilovers
progress rear sway bar 25mm
greddy profec electronic boost controller
turbo xs front mount intercooler
ingals stiffy engine torque damper
greddy oil catch can
apexi turbo timer
hks turbo timer harness
Half Cage
Sparco 4 pt harness

i think you can sqeeze more out of that 35r. anyways the 850r is equivalent to a 37r but better spool and etc. there's some thread flowing around with hard data that you could look at, just do some searching! wish u luck

i agree, but there are people that are putting down some hard core numbers with the current set up that you have and less. i think its the tune maybe thats what it is, i dont know. or you can say "forget it" and go to a hta37r and never look back. haha good luck

Well the 555 was with 93 octane not race gas, It was having issues with knock, but Atlantic Motor Sports is planning on adding another injector for the alcohol, and upgrade the CDI. It does need to re-tuned though. I trust they will have it right when I pick it up in June. I live in Annapolis, but i work overseas. My Evo is black but no vinyl's to speak of I do. Have Evolution IX MR on the windshield, in White Black and red. Also a few stickers on the doors from some of the parts I have installed.

I have a buddy with the same AMS 2.3RR engine and the AMS HTA37R. One of the main differences between your setup and his is he's running the Tomei 280's on his VIII. I think he's making around 600+ on a DynoDynamics, so with the conversion for a dynojet he's making close to 700 and I don't think that was with race gas and I believe he was blowing out spark. Please understand I could be mistaken though, so please don't flame me for posting those #'s. I know I drove it on the streets with around 560 (before he went COP) and it was making full boost around 4000-4200RPM's with the 37r. I think if you went with the 850 or 37R you'd be happy with spool time and power.

Actually I believe Atlantic motor sports is installing race cams I'm not 100% sure which ones they are going with. We have alot of discussions and then something newer and better comes out. It's nut's I'm liking the 850R. I'm only pushing 30lbs with my 35R. I wish I knew more about the tuning of these cars. there is so much information out there.

850R will peak out around 775, maybe 800whp but that will be pushing it hard. The 37R would be similar to the 850R but laggier, and probably make less power. If you want 800+whp, get the new Precision billet 67mm or a 4294R.

We made 784whp with the Precision 6262 and ran 8's.. I have never had an 850r in my hands but my guess is that its not the same size as the 37r at all.. As far as 700 on pump gas good luck with the time bomb.. If it even makes 700 on pump get one bad fillup and kiss that motor good bye..

Precision is releasing a new 6765 that will make well over 800whp.. if thats your goal wait for that.. otherwise we use the 6262 billet wheel turbo on most our builds..

I like the Full race GT4088 Twin scroll, I see 2.5bar at 4200rpm in 4th awsome set up on a 2.2lt engine.

The next "best thing" turbo has the shelf life of a Bannana in the Evo community. I would say go with the most reputable maker with the best customer service and be happy.
