Questions about coating the turbo, exhaust mani, etc...
So I searched for a while earlier but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for.
I'm looking into getting an FP red and I would like to get my exhaust mani, turbo (and maybe o2 housing) ported and coated. My question is about the coating in specific.
After searching it seems that with coating, Swain Tech is the way to go. The coating they offer is a ceramic coating, as where many others are Jet coated.
What exactly is jet coating, is it just basically high temp paint used to reduce engine bay temps?
Are there any major other companies that do ceramic coating? I had heard FP will ceramic coat turbos, can anyone verify this?
Since I'm going to send my turbo to FP to get built I figure I might as well have them coat it while its there. Has anyone had experience with FP's coating's? Is it indeed ceramic?
Thanks in advance,
Nick

You might be interested in a coating named Turbo X by Techline Coatings. It costs $50 for 8 oz, which is more than enough to do a full turbine housing, downpipe, and manifold. You simply have your parts sandblasted with 120 grit, and your body shop spray it on with a jamb gun. It cures on the car when you drive it. Works great, 2000+ degree rated. I've got it on several parts, with no problems. The cost is substantially lower than a lot of shops charge.
Swaintech is good stuff. Very expensive, and most people experience flaking at some time.

Check out http://www.performancecoatings.com They did my downpipe for like $60 (I can't remember it's been so long, it could have been $40 LOL)
They are out of Auburn, Wa. and do thermal coatings. You can even get different colors From there webisite- "Satin Ceramic Exhaust Coatings are the most advanced exhaust system coatings available. They are a very durable ceramic-reinforced coating available in various shades. When properly applied, it becomes the most effective thermal barrier coating available, increasing performance while extending component life, and has been tested to over 2000° F without lifting, cracking or flaking."
