exhaust : w/silencer HP difference ??

howdie guys,

first of all - yes , i did a search ... but one question is still burning under my fingernails :

i got a blitz nur-spec under my '07 evo IX -

anyone got an idea (maybe dyno-run) of the HP-difference using with or w/o silencer ??

means, really enjoy the music of the blitz catback, but on highway-use it's kinda annoying ...

btw.: is it really necessary do unclamp the battery everytime i swap the silencer in or out (so the ECU can learn from scrap) - or will the ECU "remember" the parameters ??

TIA,pat.

when i put my silencer on i feel like the car is a bit slower, but that's just me, so i am assuming that there's gotta be HP difference, i normally don't floor it when i have my silencer on. It probably restricts better airflow, and u don't have to unclamp the battery every time.

silencers are HUGE restrictions...if I remember correctly there was some dyno testing done on nasioc with a silencer and it robbed upwards of 25~ whp

mainly because it kills your exhaust flow to a point it's almost choking it

... like i felt

thx for the hint with the battery-thingy, now i'm cool bout that

in comparison to the stock exhaust - would you say blitz+silencer limits exhaust flow more or less ??

TIA,pat.

... 25hp DAMN !!

that means i can gain up to 20hp with the blitz over the stock catback - and lose 25hp when using w/ silencer - thats 5hp less than stock *eeek*

anyways, minus 5hp with the option for plus 20hp by turning 1 screw is a nice deal IMO

regards,pat.

Dynoflash had a customer I believe who had a hks(?) silencer, lost almost 50whp as I recall. Not sure if it was tuned yet or not. The losses were substantial to say the least..

Forget the silencer. They kill your power plus IMO they look like crap. Now I know you already bought the exhaust but if I were you I would rock the factory catback with a QTP electric cutout. Best of both worlds

I went from 534hp to 506hp when I installed a silencer and let me tell you it didn't silence anything. This thing is coming off as soon as I get a chance to remove it.

i have an active silencer on my new 3 inch custom exhaust with Jun BL titanium canister. the exhaust sounds almost stock. you lose a lot of power when running a silencer. butt dyno on my previous set up(3.5 inch exhaust with titanium canister) felt like a loss of 100hp. takes forever for the car to spool also.

i solved the issue now with a flick of a button. also there are better options than qtp.

For a turbo the best HP is had with no restriction at all from the low pressure side of turbine to tailpipe, torque is a little more resistant. The limiting factor boils down to the smallest diameter i.e. exducer/WG, O2 housing outlet, catback, muffler.

See for yourself, run an open downpipe with large diameter O2 housing
