I bet your setup makes the turbo/DV even louder
No problem. I could pm you the filter specs if you want.

Please do, if you have more pics you can send them too. What is the metal thing holding the filter on the side? is the turbo louder with your mod?

your air filter looks pretty big in the first pic & doesn't look like it would fit right in the 1st pic but looks fine in the 2nd...did you just cut the bottom of the air box off??

I had this setup forever and worked well with the small K&N filter and Maf adapter kit from AMS...but now that i have the JMF intake tube I can't use the modified airbox anymore...

Don't PM just post them here so everyone can see them. I think this is a very nice approach.

Lol, ok. I got my inspiration for this set up from a couple of guys on the NorCalEvo.net forums. Here's the thread: http://www.norcalevo.net/showthread.php?t=26813. It'll tell you pretty much how to build your own stealth stock air box. I made mine using a K & N filter for a Briggs & Stratton engine (part # 33-2238). It cost me about 20 bucks and a weekend of my time. I modified a MAF bracket from a 3rd gen Supra to fit the filter. I also applied some RTV to make sure the filter sealed nicely. It acts like a poor man's ARC box. It'll definitely make your diverter valve sound much louder. I like a very stock looking engine compartment and this stealth air box mod definitely helps keep me looking stock while still having a good flowing intake.

Here's my take on my stock air box. I modified my air box to accept a second K & N filter on the side. That filter gets a straight shot of air into the MAF. I also have a drop in K & N in the stock location. This mod allows me to maintain 24 psi until redline with my FP White. Once the box is bolted back in the engine compartment, everything looks completely stock.

I am was looking into me engine to make this airbox mod and notice that in order to maek the small filter fit you have to cut and remove the airbox holder on the side of the box. Is the stock airbox still solid in plance with this holder removed. I suppose you kept the steel bracket and just cut the plastic holder on the airbos side wehre the filter is placed.

Yes, you do have to cut away the side tab that secures the box on the drivers side. The box does move some but it's still secure with the other front tab bolted down and the MAF accordian tube holds it in place also. I'm going to go back and make up a metal tab one of these days to attach to the box and the drivers side mounting point. Then I'll be completely satisfied with the way the box is mounted.

Has anyone ever tried to run a big turbo on the stock box? I'd be curious to know if the stock air box can be made to flow as much as the MAF will flow, meaning that the MAF becomes the restriction. I'd like to keep the stock computer on my build, so I am going to try to run the stock box up to 600+ whp. Anyone ran a stock box at these levels?

I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to keep it sealed. As soon as you leave the line the stock box is getting force fed cool air from the high pressure intake on the front of the car.

Why would you want to suck in hot air from the hot engine bay.

I'm sure some of these hax show gains on a dyno because the car isn't moving and odds are the passes are made with the hood open but **** pound your car for a bit then pop the hood and feel the heat. The intake is right behind the radiator and right next to the exhaust manifold.

Unless you are putting down 400whp I highly doubt that the stock air box with drop in is a restriction at speed.
