my intake cam snapped?!!?

Finally had a cam break at about 8300rpm. Cosworth M3, Red, Road race with some drag racing. Bent valves and broke the timing cover. Rebuilt the head and bolted it back on with S2s and made more power:
All at no charge to the customer much as I said I would if faced with this issue. To their credit Cosworth did send us a completely new set of M3s at no cost. I wish they had done what I had asked and sent me the broke cam back though since we asked for nothing else in the whole deal.

i would also like to raise this question...all those snapping cams...do they let go immediately after installation or do they wait a couple of thousand miles before they take a crap on you?
basically after how long of the installation did your snapping cam let go??

did the broke cam have a batch number?
bbyevo8u: when did you buy the cams? if they are fairly recent they will be the new style core, not the style that is breaking on people.

Some folks said you can see the core batch number through the oil cap with a flashlight, but I assume the cam has to be at just the right rotation. It's like a double slap in the face. You pay 1K + for the whole deal, barely make any power from it and now run the risk of reliability issues and motor failure.....

Not sure what one is the batch number or not. I still feel its not necessarily an inherent design flaw its just whatever outside force acting on the cam breaks it there and thats the weakest point. I think its silly to be afraid of the cams though still. I have run my car over 8k for 46k miles on 2 different sets of GSC cams. We have done numerous Cosworths, Tomei, Greddy, etc. and not had a problem till now. If it is an RPM thing I would assume people like Most Wanted and Brandon with the TT built IX that run over 9k would have had failures already.
I am not sure your statement about the FP core is correct.
