my intake cam snapped?!!?

so today the end of my intake cam snapped off.. this is a 9 btw, it threw off the timing belt obviously and tore the crap out of the timing cover. so i pulled off what was left of it and the cam gear just fell off, i have not done anything else.

what could have caused this?? just camshaft failure? not sure i believe that, they where kelfords. seems like more 9s are doing it rather than 8s. maybe the mivec gear is gay?

The timing belt could have been over tensioned or it could have been a faulty cam but most likely option a, Can you post a pic of the broken part of the cam?
This could tell us a little more about the failure.

From the lack of a "polished" break I would be inclined to think that the cam did infact snap rather instantly but you also can't rule out improper torque of the bolt or t-belt installational error.

This sucks now you have to open the motor up and rebuild the head since the valves and guides are bent/broken.

You can when you are 100% certain it was all torqued to factory specs, and belt properly installed and tensioned.

Boosters car ran for some time (similar to mine) before this failure.

I dont see how either one of these could have caused that kind of damage to the cam.
I say you had a bad cam.

cams ran fine for about 7 months.. i stood in my tuners garadge and watched him torque ever single bolt in order twice.

TNT had the exact same problem as me.
