Old thread yes yes I know. But I fail to see how this is going to decrease your performance. My thoughts would be that you are infact running safer because you dont run the risk of boost creep much if at all with a external wg. Boost creepy blows motors.
Secondly I lke the idea of a plate over the flap door. When the claims of decreased performance would be strictly told by a but dyno and/or theory. If you were to use a long enough dump tube (`5-8 inchs withas few bends as possible you are completely elminating the internal wg and creating a consistant pressure anywhere in you boost or load valuessince you dont have a flapper bouncing open and closed. Consistent pressure and dumped exhaust outside your typical exhaust system.....hmmm creates a senario to have a better VE, or that you have more flow by doing a setup such as this. Iv only reaally seen this done on SD setups and infact my own base model build (a DD that cost under 5K FTWhaha) Oddly enough I am using a similar manifold from speed corps It has a EGT port that I am welding the 38mm wg flange to and was going to weld the flap door itself shut but I have no recolection how or why I ended up on your thread but I really like the idea of a piece of steel to weld and seal it and possibly use some high temp gasket puddy merely for the extra security that it wount open and to keep airflow consistant and smooth instead of bouncing around on my crap weld skills (You think iv thought much about this haha). 8 inch home depot special dump pipe and I truely love the sound. Its subtle but loud enough to get a few second glances.
Well done and pretty innovative for a 19yo at the time. Im not trying to create a evo or even reach it with my build however this being the first time iv done a turbo build and learned to tune it should make the little daily driver a bit more fun for sure. Have a aquaintance that is currently "0"ing out his FT running 17psi on stock bottom end 4G94. Tuning excellence I would say.
Haters gonna Hate. Pioneering is a gift that not all can achieve.
Would love to hear follow up if you ever get back to reading this thread just to see how it went and if it is still going
