People go back and forth on the rebuild issues for FP and PTE. I think a lot of it has to do with the people using them. Ive had quite a few PTE turbos on my cars and put them on friends' and pushed them hard and never had a problem, ever. Even on drag cars. Its not hard to kill a turbo by overspeeding, surging, oil starvation, etc... and I think most has to do with the tuner or owner.
Ive never owned FP turbos but Ive put them on a couple cars, never had a problem with those either.

My personal opinion is yes it is. I would rather spend the extra 350 for the extra piece of mind. The turbo is not really something that i would think about from an economic stand point.

Another vote for the HTA3582 with .63 hotside. That will keep you in the fun street able spool that you undoubtedly want and cover your power goal with room to grow as everyone eventually desires.
As for the intake manifold, I would stick with a ported stock intake manifold. I have had great success with mine as many others have. Just have to get it ported at the right place by the right people.

Well if I have the money- I plan on throwing a magnus cast on there as my tuner is very capable of making it streetable. If I were to go the HTA3582 route with the built 2.2 don't you think I'd be able to spool quick enough wit hit being a .2 stroker? I was thinking of going with the .82 a/r for top end as .63 might allow too much back pressure. I don't know what the spool difference would be with this setup, but I also don't know what I'd be giving up top end wise by going with the smaller a/r...

The HTA82 would be a pretty quick spooler and for 600hp, the .63 would be fine. I generally prefer the .82, but it depends on the powerband you want. The Magnus manifold will also help the top end a little.

for a twinscroll, you will always get good spoolup, yet with the larger a/r ratio you still get great topend... the best of both worlds.

I know that the OEM is a twinscroll- but what makes a twinscroll setup? Clearly the Turbos that I'm choosing are single scroll... So what would be some turbos that are of comparrison in HP outage and twin scroll. And does this also mean the manifold must then be a twinscroll manifold?
Sorry- a little retarded when it comes to the "Scrolles".

thanks alot for considering our headers. we mfg both twinscroll and singlescroll headers to suit both styles of turbocharging. I personally prefer the twinscrolls as i have found it to be a much more driveable/responsive/satisfying configuration, but some of the drag racers on here prefer the singlescroll.
after you read through that link you may also want to look up some posts from "Ted B"

I just haven't seen many evos go that route. I have some time to consider my options. I have an AWHP goal of 600 on E85 on a 2.2 built shortblock, built head, the ProEFI EMS, Kelford 272's, and magnus cast intake. I just want the most streetable build and fastest spool. I'm not looking to go 170mph- so top end is cool, but I won't really be testing out much further than maybe .5 mile going WOT.
Thoughts?
Geoff- you should check out my build thread on midwestevos- you'll learn a lot more about what's up with my build. http://www.midwestevos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2595
