This thread is pointless. These are two completely different motors which make their own distinctive sound. I know the exhaust tone changes with an equal length manifold for a subie but it isn't the same for our cars. If the exhaust tone is the only thing in your head about moding your evo then you should just sell your car and invest more into your subie.

sorry youre not getting the answers you wanted to hear. but its been clearly stated that unequal length headers are not ideal. engine design difference also lead to the fact that you will never get an evo to sound like your wrx. plain and simple. get yourself a cd or something of the boxer rumble if you wanna hear it so badly in your evo

That does exist. I think it was on pimp my ride they threw in this kit that goes in the engine bay, it's got a mic and speaker to sort of broadcast the sound of your engine... Ri-*******-diculous

I agree that you will never get the boxer sound out of the evo as... well the evo has an I4. In addition, the more unequal the runners get, the more the exhaust pulses are out of phase and the more each pulse 'runs into' another pulse the more turbulence there will be in the exhaust flow. This is a bad thing. You want smooth air coming from the exhaust to increase the flow rate and therefore the spin on the turbine and hence the compressor wheel increasing intake flow. That is why many headers are billed as 'equal length' as it is a desirable trait, however more expensive due to routing and material cost. Bottom line is, dont make your header unequal on purpose, it will only decrease performance.
A large cam will definitely give you a more 'boxer like' sound with an offbeat idle.
