differences between a 7 bolt 4G63T block(1997 eclipse turbo) vs. a 7 bolt 4G63T EVO 8
Hi,
does anyone know what are the differences between a 7 bolt 4G63T block( from 1997 eclipse turbo) vs. a 7 bolt 4G63T EVO VIII block?
are the crankshafts and rods the same? im sure the pistons are not. any other differences? coz im planning to build a short block for turbo use. I have a spare 4g63T ( from 1997 eclipse turbo) block just lying in my garage. if the crankshaft and the rods can be used for 400+whp then i can just buy ACL race rod and main bearings plus ... + EVO 8 head with hks camshafts..
thanks in advance for your comments

The block itself different. Where the transmission bolts to the block is completely different between the 2 blocks. The 2G block has only 4 bolts to hold the transmission on, and the Evo block has 5. I just did a motor on a 97 4g63, and on an Evo, and had both block side by side, and they are not the same. Hope this helps

The guy above must have been working on a 1g or a 2g with a 6 bolt swap. The 6 bolt motors(pre 92.5) have only 4 tranny bolts. The 7 bolts have 5. However. On the front side of the block where the evo starter would go. The dsm 7 bolt's front 2 tranny bolts are too far appart to accept the evo starter plate/tranny.
Oil/water pumps should be the same. I could go downstairs right now since i have both blocks sitting waiting for builds.
Why on earth would anyone put a dsm 7 bolt in an evo is beyond me. Crankwalk>than cost of dsm 7 bolt savings.
If you wanna save some money instead of paying ridiculous evo block prices just get yourself a 4g64 out of an eclipse. Those blocks can be had for ~$100. So the money could go to better things. Like forged internal goodness.
