FP Red failure

*** I just want to clear something up for the people that don't know***
I bought this turbo used not new From mugen777. So Im not sure how mugen777 ran the turbo. Maybe the problem already existed when I got the turbo ??

I just finished talking to Robert and they are going to take care of me. Im very happy and pleased with their customer service.
Big thumbs up to FP for the great customer service.

(I feel like such a douche and embarrassed for not calling them first )

I started to hear ticking noise coming out of my intake when my car would idle. I decided to take off the intake and inspect the turbo. Well everything seemed fine on the intake side, So I decided to take the whole turbo off the car to inspect it some more...Well looks like the exhaust turbine was rubbing on the heat shield causing that ticking noise. Some of the blades are cracked because of the heat generated by the rubbing.....

What would be the cause of this ?? The turbo had no side to side play but had in-out play.

I was running there upgraded oil line with filter and I always use the turbo timer... I tried to take pics but my camera sucks.

I hope they warranty the turbo...I will be sending it out today.

How many miles have you put on the turbo since you installed it? Did you contact FP yet?

Typically a customer would contact the company, send in the part, and find out what caused the failure before broadcasting it on the internet. There are any number of causes for the symptoms you describe. If it was a product failure, FP has a well deserved reputation for taking care of their customers in those circumstances.

How did you determine what caused the damage to the fins in the exhaust side of the turbo?

Sorry about the outcome of the turbo and your future down-time.

This certainly doesn't help my decision on going to a RED as i have my all boxed up and ready to go.

I think i may wait to see what happens with your dealings with FP before i ship it.

Hope you're back up and running soon!

Just another Garrett chra bites the dust. Nothing new here. Stick to journal bearing heavy industry turbos, such as Mitsu and Borg Warner and Holset. Show one of those turbos failing, and I'll show you a liar.

Subscribed and waiting for feedback. I agree with finding out the cause and working things out on the lowest level first. This is how the Army deals with potential problems before it's brought to higher. My initial thought was "uh oh", first the upgraded oil line was required/recommended due to heat issues causing failure and now this. Hopefully things work out in your favor.
