AV Gas (100 octane)

So any of you guys ever ran AV Gas? Where i'm at they highest octane you can purchase is craptastic 90, but the Shell by my house actually sells 100 octane low lead AV Gas for a dollar more than 90. Wanted to see if anyone has any experience w/using Av gas and how well it works for tuning wise. I'm planning on using it as my pump gas tune, haha, and 108 for my race gas tune.

How are you able to get aviation fuel for purchase?

Don't use aviation fuel for a high octane fuel in a car. The hydrocarbon content as such, is primarily formulated for fuel delivery at altitude (unless your driving to the top of Mt Everest)

Some people where i am use it, but tuning is the key and i would make sure the fuel lines etc can take it.

How so? I've pmed a tuner here and he told me it should perform close to 110 octane. I was going to run it as my primary fuel since we don't have 93 here. At the pump it actually says low leaded.

At the shell by my house they have it setup to purchase like a regular gas station pump it's just in the corner though.

I've run it many times in a stock turbo car and it has worked very well. Just as well as running a meth kit or the like.

I tried running it on the dyno in my 500+whp 35r car, and it was a marginal difference over 93 octane.

Kinda weird results but I would say that for 400ish setups it works just fine.

Avgas works horrible in automobiles. Not to mention the fact it kill's o2's and cats as most know. I use to get it for free and wouldn't run it after repeated tries with no luck. Use E85 or pump w/ meth. And not to mention you already said you would run 108 for your race map. Leave 90 in the car on a regualr basis and use the 108 as stated.

My boy Cooper runs it in his Harley. He says it runs really hot. You might want to monitor EGT's pretty close with AV gas. You can burn a hole right through an aluminum piston. My two cents.

I considered this a couple years ago. What kept me from using it was the fact that aviation gas is supposedly "dirtier" and not as clean.

The stuff is fine, if anything it is more consistent than most Sunoco fuels.

Yes, its leaded, but so is Sunoco 110 and C16.

Not to mention that even though it states "LL" or low lead, there is more lead then your high octane fuel.
You can buy Avgas, you just can't pump it directly into your car.

My 450F ran cooler with high octane VP.

Why the hell you would want to expose yourself to tetra-ethyl lead which is in all AVgas is beyond me.

Funny thing is the guy tuning you said it's worth a shot, Still going to have him tune it though. On another note, i would absolutely run E85 if it was available to me but it isn't. Any other takers?
