P0365 code with Evoscan
I have an Evo IX and I have this code. I have cleared it a dozen times an it keeps coning back even though two new sensors have been installed. I have traded the sensors and the intake side never sets a code. So, my question is how do I check out the cam position sensor circuit? Is there a wiring harness that can be changed which usually causes this problem? Does the Evo IX shop manual address this with a trouble shooting section? Thanks for any help.

As it turns out the Evo IX manual does have a flow chart type diagnostic for this problem but the first test is an oscilloscope test for the cam sensor output. This rewuites a special wiring insert that allows the ECU to see the output while you have access to the output with some jumper wires. Everything checked out okay (these are wiring tests for conductivity or shorts to ground) except one thing. The ECU is supposed to provide 4.8-5.2 volts to the sensor but it is only giving me 3.6 V. Is this low enough to suggest that a voltage regulator in the ECU is toast? Another fun fact, the OBDII codes define the P0365 code as the exhaust cam sensor but the Mistubishi shop manual has this as the intake cam sensor and code P0304 as the exhauxt cam sensor. Hmmmm.

I have an evo in the shop with the same code. Seems the person who installed the cams forgot to screw in the bolt the holds the metal piece that the sensor reads on the intake cam. I have not fixed it yet. Let me know if you have to replace your ecu.

In my case I never touched the cams at all. I have a bone yard ECU on order. However, I have not checked the cam sensor output on an oscilloscope as recommended in the diagnostic routines. I did measure low voltage from the ECU 3.6 V instead of the 4.8-5.2V. I also found a short to ground on an ECU pin that should not have been there. I am hoping the the next ECU fixes this.
