Thanks for the informative update. Myself, I like Garrett turbos, and that's from my own personal history with their usage on other platforms. Not to say I am close-minded, and as you can probably tell, I did suggest to the original thread- starter to look at other options, i.e., visiting some reputable tuner shops in his area for tuning options, and turbos are a big part of the tuning regimen.

I stand corrected, you are right, for I did say the 3071R is a stock frame when it is not. Thanks.

if its an evo IV and a daily driven car i would think a stock appearing turbo would be ideal. i would think this to be a good choice with lots of room to grow. http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...Code=DSM-Turbo

That turbo says its for drag purpose, so I don't think I'm going to go with that one. Reason being that I live in Japan and there aren't too many straight roads, I need something with really quick spool for togue.

With the Garrett, you can request different A/Rs. I know all about driving in Japan, just as you do now, and yes, you want a quicker spooling turbo. Look at Tomei, Power Enterprise and again, take advantage of local knowledge around you.

There's two great turbo I recommend for the IV. The VI RS TD05HRA-16G6-10.5 and of course the one you mention, the TME turbo. The VI RS turbo is just a overall great turbo and the TME is great for togue because of its quicker spool. These were the 2 that I was planing on using. Also as someone mention, the IV do have the weakest internal of all the newer evo's.

There's no way to reflash the IV ecu. Although I have a Apex-i Power FC with commander that is just sitting around I have for the IV. It's actually for a V but its been customize for the IV and is a straight plug and play. I paid $1000 + shipping for it, but I'm open to offer if you do need to go that route.

Btw, are you military?

I might be interested in the Power FC but gotta look at my budget for the next couple months, and yes I am military.

Togue is basically driving curvy mountain roads in Japan

Oh yeah btw dropped 180,000 Yen on the IV so they are going to hold it for me until I get the rest of it in a month, but the test drive was awesome. I've never driven a AWD turbo'd car before a couple days ago (my buddy with the Evo VI rewarded me for helping him put on his sway bar) but it was awesome. I think I'm going to get another opinion on the turbo though because I don't think it's as bad as they say. But thanks for the direction guys.

Just a correction on the spelling. It's "touge" pronounced "toh' geh", and it is some of the most fun driving ever, especially up in Hakone. Ahhh! Fond memories! Enjoy!

What base are going to?? I'm at Yokota myself and also an evo IV owner. I can answer some questions for you also. If I hold on to the car I'm planing an evo VII ecu swap myself, 560 injectors and bigger pump are needed though. A TME would be a great turbo, if you need more power and awesome response BBK is a great option too but I'd recommend bottom end upgrade first. Good luck.
