High Boost and Engine life?

I'm thinking about upping the boost but I was curious if anyone has been around 25-27psi and have been for a year or more? Have you had to do any additional maintenance?

IMO other than arp head studs if your running that boost on a stock engine with bolt on's you will be fine. A good tune is critical of course.

About 50,000 miles of 25- 32 psi whenever at WOT. So far so good - knock on wood. Stock head/rodstuds and water-methanol use.

its all in the tune and the fuel.....i was tuned on 28psi....stock turbo.....stock head.......93 octane

i made 381 awhp / 375 trq......car is awsome but i dont feel the need to push it that far because 93 isnt always perfect for gas. Turned the boost down to 25-26psi. on 93.

you will be ok....but alot of the times its NOT always the tune.....think about it if you get one bad tank of 93 .....by by motor.

be smart....if its a DD theres no need to push a car that high of boost on only 93. E85 or meth is a different story.

I did with Alky, then my pump fail as I raced a gsxr 600. I lost and blew my motor. I had no issues other than that. This was a very long time ago and since Ive ran 23psi daily, no probs.

Tune is the most critical part. Your motor will last according to your driving style. 25-27psi daily is fine. The longevity of your motor will depend on how you maintain your car and how hard you push your car everyday.

I would recommend arp head studs if you plan on going 28+psi on the stock turbo.

Take care of your car and it will take care of you.

well said i am gonna retune to 27 psi and hold as much as i could to redline should be around 23/24 psi.

to get away from damaging the engine i just use the swtich map option to wastegate boost.

and with the knock CEL u can actually SEE knock lol.

just get a good tuner and ur on ur way.

High boost for short periods of time won't kill your engine life. If you WOT all the time, like from stop light to stop light, on ramp off ramp, then you have a speeding problem and your engine probably won't like you very much.

I've been running 25psi, Shell 93octane for around 2yrs , it's a IX MR with 39K miles and has been on high boost since 15K miles. I run Denso IKH24 plugs which are 1 step colder. Also I have T-bolt clamps everywhere except the Throttle body and the bov (they don't fit well there). I use all factory fluids and change oil at 3K mile intervals, drive train every 15K. I need new plugs right now (around 20K on them). The car is on it's 3rd clutch (bad choice on the 2nd clutch only lasted 12K miles). Second set of brake pads, 3rd set of tires.

I should note, all of the miles on the car are in town traffic miles. Car see's Lots of full boost daily. I live in deep south texas and we have a 9 month summer with most of it over 105 degrees. The car is tuned 12.2 peak torque, 11.5 through the middle, and richening to 11.1 at redline (7800). It's got minimal mods (TBE, AEM solenoid, tuned) and is a strong 350+ whp Evo (traps 113, DLL360/340)

I agree with previous posters, if your engine is properly tuned, 25psi or even more on 93octane is reliable. I've tried higher boost levels but didnt put down any more power and the car just became more knock prone - stock turbo / fuel pump / intercooler / head bolts.

when do the head studs become a must on a stock turbo with basic bolt ons?
