I would be worried about pressure loss at that length. I believe there is an existing bung on the back side of both viii and ix blocks. That is usually where I would run it from.

There's more pressure generated down there than in the middle of the block. Plus, who wants to pull the block out to drill a hole in it, if it doesn't need to come out for something else.

Well again i disagree with trying to convert to the mivec head. Just buy the dam long block so you dont have to worry bout ghetto riggin stuff.

Really? That's all that's required? Man that's cake. Even more so if you can tap a feed from the oil filter. I'd think this is waaayy easier/cheaper/better than buying a IX long block. I'm gonna do this when I start getting into head work on my VIII.

Lol, "just buy the long block", yeah right....you foot the bill! The Mivec'll give me all I need from a car I plan to keep for years, quick spool, and with the 9 turbo, decent top end.

No need for the aggro of pulling the whole motor out, simple head swap and an extra external oil line. The oil line is no different to fitting an oil pressure gauge.

hah I did "foot tha bill" lol

Not really something I want to get into, but there are a few other differences between the VIII block and the IX that can create an issue.

But just for the record, my block needed to be rebuilt as well. So much easier to just right a check and have a left over Evo IX MR production motor shipped to my door.

Indulge me, get into it! What are the differences that can create an issue....I'm dealing with the engine harness and the oil supply, don't think I've missed anything, and neither do the others who've done the swap.

Do you mean the existing thread where the pressure switch is on the back of the block, or the one I'm talking about in the oil filter housing?

Why is wiring considered a pain? Don't you just have to run a few extra wires to the MIVEC unit? Couldn't you control that with a separate aftermarket controller?

Hi, I've had the mechanical swap ( head, inlet manifold ) done now, and have the car back at home. Unfortunately, it is still on the 8 ecu, as I can't find an accurate pinout diagram for the jdm 9 ecu.....I ended up more or less having to have a loom made, and that's now connected to the 4 relevant sensors for the Mivec, and the tails of the loom are in the footwell awaiting connection. However, without the relevant diagram, that's as far as I'm going to get, and I can't find anyone at the moment who can help.

2nd hand 9 engine looms are hard to find in the U,K., and are prohibitively expensive from the dealers ( upwards of £2000GBP ), hence the need for a manufactured item. The one guy who would have been able to help has been unable to, due to personal problems.

I reckon I'm about 4 hours away from having the car wired and mapped on the 9 ecu, but until I can confirm what goes to where, it's game over temporarily.

Cheers, Andy.

O.k., it's been a while, but I finally thought I was getting somewhere today....got the car wired and went out to map it, only to find that the inlet cam is locked....has anyone else who's done this swap managed it without a non-return valve in the Mivec oil line?
