When is it time to upgrade from the stock ignition?
Hey guys,
I'm almost done with my 2.3 build, but theres a few little odds and ends I'm working out before I swap the motor in. My goal with this motor is 550-600awhp. I plan on attempting this on the stock ecu. Everything I have has tested to make well over 600awhp except the stock ignition system. Has anyone done that? I searched for 30 minutes and found nothing.
This is my weekend car so all this will be done on 93oct or q/c16. Thought please!

I'm a believer in upgrading if needed, or if it provides additional increase in power. If the OEM ignition is working OK and you meet your 600 whp goal. Then great.
If ignition breaks up at high rpms, or high load, with plugs gapped at 0.020", then you need to upgrade the ignition.
IOW, if it ain't' broke don't fix it. Spend you money on something you "need"!

I agree. Al at ICS seems to have great success with it, but for me; I just assume spend the extra bit of cash on a spark tech or buschur setup and do it the best way.
I guess the only way to know for sure is to just get nice plugs, and see if it does or doesn't break up under load. Doesn't seem like there's a deffinitive answer to this question.

i only had 8k miles on my stock coils and wires, and i was breaking up around 520awhp at like 28lbs. used sparktechs ignition with cdi box and made 580 on 34lbs.

too bad people are sheep and believe otherwise..the more you modify the more often you have problems, look at the heavily modified people; you are lying to yourself or plain delusional if you don't believe
(not saying anything against the sparktech product or buchur cop) less is more, when you have blow out..get a cop
