A question about evo 9 short block and evo 8 short block

I have an Evo IX MR and I have fried one of my piston. I want to be on the safe side so I want to get a new short block. So far, I can only find an evo 8 short block, and I'm really not sure if the tranny is gonna fit, unless someone knows where I can find an oem evo ix mr shortblock so I know for sure it will fit. Any componets I can use to make my MR Tranny fit on an the evo 8 block? or is it impossible? I know there are conversion kit for 6spd MR shortblock to install a 5 spd.

I know I can just bore the motor out and make it to a 2.1/2.3L motor, but don't have the money for tuning and everything for it as I am currently working on my RX-7 since December.

ps: I already tried google and could not find it, and I don't want to buy a whole new motor, just a shortblock with all its componets is needed(pistons, crank, etc.), unless someone can get me a good condition Evo IX MR motor for under $3K, then I will be really happy.

It will be appreciated if anyone can help me out.

I thought there was a difference on how the tranny mounts. I know the bottom end is the same, but is there any difference in the bolt pattern for the tranny or something?

are you sure the evo 8 and 9 block are the same? i think the evo 9 has more oil passages in it cause of mivec... you should check that out...

I thought of that, but I only have 3k. buying all the parts, machining the block, labor, and then tuning, you will be looking at over 6k easy, possibly more.

Dude, its a big piece of Iron, as long as you didn't gouge the bore past a certain point you can just bore it out and put a bigger piston in. Not to mention that they sell sleeves so you can have what ever bore you want even if its gouged. Use the money on machine work, internals, and the tune. Forget buying a new block. 4G63's are hard to come by and I think it would cost too much to change the VIII block over.

^^^^^ wammy! viii and ix blocks are NOT the same. There is an extra oil feed to the head. How complicated it would be to make it work...idk? PS tranny's are interchangeable when it comes to bolting to the block. They have diffrent shifter cables and linkages but bolt up the same

this is what i meant, as far as the tranny pattern, the 6 speed should bolt up. good point about the mivec oil passages though, hah just like honda vtec blocks
