Stock intercooler sprayer? VIII/IX owners chime in plz.

Ok so first off here is the fact.
I own and evo IX
I have an evo VIII front bumper (bought the car with it.)
I hear people talking about stock intercooler sprayers.

Ok so in any case I did a search and didn't see much. Also, if you want to ****, moan, cry, or flame about how it doesn't do **** I don't care and take your comments elsewhere. I'm not looking for power gains or increases... I just want to get this thing working.

Ok now that thats out of the way.

My evo 8 bumper has the nozzles for the sprayer still installed on the bumper, but the hose has been cut off. My questions are as follows:

1. Do evo IX's even have a stock ic sprayer?
2. Where does the stock hose run if 1 is true?
3. Where is the reservoir? Does it use the same one as the washer fluid?
4. Where is the stock mounting for the switch?

I'm considering doing some custom stuff, but I'd like to know what it originally had so I know what I have/had to work with. Any help/thoughts/pictures would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1. No. IX's did not come with a stock IC sprayer.
2. The stock hose runs just above the lip inside the bumper to the pump and resivoir on the drivers side.
3. IX's do not have the resivoir, it would be where your ACD resivoir is and it is not the same as the washer fluid resivoir.
4. The stock mounting for the switch is between the cup holder and the shifter.

Reroute the washer sprayer hoses down there and it sounds good to me.

The switch has three positions, auto, manual and off. In the manual position it sprays as long as you depress the switch. In the auto position the ECU determines when the spraying occurs. The manual position is only useful when you are stopped since it requires the use of the hand needed for shifting.

The ic sprayer is largely useless.

That information comes from auto magazine writers who tested the car in the quarter when it first arrived here. They didn't see any difference, sprayer on or off, in their quarter mile times.

The sprayer had to be in auto (operated by the ECU) since you can't shift and hold the button down. So, whether the sprayer ever actually operated during these tests is unknown.

It is not useless. Evos are NOT drag cars they are rally cars. For a drag car it may be useless. A run takes way too little time to heat soake a properly sized intercooler. The same is not true for a rally or road race.

If the IC sprayers were so useless i don't think mitsu would have put them in the JDM IX, the JDM X has an IC sprayer also.

I noticed when set to auto, the sprayer comes on during WOT. The dash light lets you know when its functioning. Manual is for when your getting off the track, auto is for on the track.

Please explain. When I set mine to auto, the dash light stays lit, whether its spraying or not I dont know. Does your's blink or something at WOT? I usually just hold the manual side down and I do feel it help.

I don't even think mines is working... I wasn't sure if the car has to be moving when the manual button works but I had buddy press it down when i was up front looking for any sign of spray just to see where the jets are and nothing happened. But then again I new to the car so it could be a moving only thing.
