squeak coming from pulley

Hi guys,
Hopefully I posting on the right place. Seems like every time it rains the top front pulley (the one by the power steering pump i believe) starts making this squeaky sound. Since it is so freaking annoying I temporarily shut it up by spraying a bit of WD40 on there (the pulley not the belt). I know this isn't normal and want to get it fixed. Any ideas? Do you guys think I need to replace the pulley? I though it could be the belt at first, but it was replaced recently.

Thanks for your time.

It must be a CT thing, because mine does the same thing. So any ideas are welcome.

Nah, it happens in NY too haha...mine squeaks all the time until the car is warmed up. I wouldn't mind knowing a fix either.

Sounds like the belt is slipping just a tad (not the actually pulley)....Does it seem to happen when it is cold and/or wet outside and then disappear after it is warm ?

Sounds like either the belt wearing down and/or loose slightly. Over time they start to become brittle and crack and stretch.

Spray a little Silicone lube at the bearing, to make sure it's the pulley and not the belt. If the sound gos away, then replace the pulley. The one that's a pain to test this out, is the Idler and tensioner, which you have to remove the wheel and liner.

yeah, its been happening to me too... everytime it rained or just outa the blue... my sexy lancer turns into a hogtied pig on a stick. I read on a different post somewhere that it could be the tension on the belt. I just did this today actually. I took a 14mm wrentch and loosend the tension on my serpentine belt... and lo and behold, the squealing went away

Interesting, didn't think too much tension could be the problem. I'll try some of these things out and see what happens, weird thing is lately it hasn't been doing it lately.

Thanks for the input guys.

Strangely, started happening to me only after getting my 15k service. Comes and goes depending on the temperature outside.

Bumpity bump. I live in canada and got my belts replaced about 1 month ago and havent heard this noise til it got below 0 degrees celsius. Im not sure if its the belt, pulley or tensioner but its definately in that area. It's also more of a tick for me

put Vaseline on the belt see if it goes away. that was my first guess, it being the belt. but the more i think about the more it seems that possibly due to colder weather the belt is stiffer then normal and its actually putting excessive wear possibly on the pulley? just a thought. goes away after its warmed up right?

Grease or oil on belts is a no no. Oil soaks into and ruins rubber.

Mitsu is particular about the accessory belt tension to the point were they have developed an electronic test for belt tension. If you have a squeaking belt the tension is probably wrong and since there is no adjustment for tension the only alternative is replacing the tensioner.

I'd suggest, if you have been lubricating the belt with a petroleum product, wipe down the pulleys with degreaser then install a new belt and a new tensioner.

While the belt is off, check all the accessories and idler pulleys by turning them by hand. If you encounter excessive roughness or slop that could be the cause of the problem.

the belt only makes noise on certain days and its more of a tick not a squeak. The days it does happen it happens randomly and almost at any time, warm or cold.
It goes away and comes back like every 15 minutes give or take and sometimes it goes away for longer
belt, water pump, timing belt etc... were all done together about a month and a half ago

I kept hearing squeaking coming from my power steering pump area, turns out it was the timing belt idler pulley just behind it.
