Underdrive Pullies...

Underdrive Pullies...
Who has installed the Unorthodox or any other underdrive pullies???
Did you install just the crank pully or also the accessory pullies?
Did it make a big gain? Dyno? 1/4 mile?
Discuss.

I just did the crank pulley, the water and alternator are the exact same size so other than for looks, you only need the crank pulley.
Yes there is a very noticeable gain, check out the dyno graphs. I am not going to a 1/4 mile track until I have a replacement clutch in my hands, plus for the momment it is my only ride so... Based on the dyno results it should be good for maybe a couple of tenths.
Basically, I highly recommend this mod.

They sell the Unorthodox Racing pulley. Install for the crank pulley is not that bad. You get at it by taking off the right front tire, remove a small plastic panel (nasty undercoating ), and the crank pulley and tensioner are right there.
Getting the belt on is probably the hardest part, apparently there is a technique to it. I whatched the guys at Alamo swap one out in 15 min, they also offered to put mine on at no additional cost, I wasn't going to argue with that. Since I did not actually install it myself, I cannot give you any more install details either. They tell me that the water pump and alternator are a royal PIA, but as I said there does not seem to be any good reason to do those any way.

Personally speaking i think it is a great mod, but i learned the hard way with my last car... The 2000 Eclipse did not like the crank pulley because it would throw off the SES light...
Something to do with a harmonic balancer or what not... So with that said, if you guys are saying you are having no problem with the lighten pulley on the evo, then this is a must have...
Does anyone know if the new belt is included or do you have to buy a particular belt...

You can install just crank pulley if you want. There are two kits available and both include a new belt. Stock belt won't fit.

I have run this crank pulley now for over a month, and other than the improved acceleration and slightly smoother idle/acceleration, you will not know it is there. I have been monitoring voltage and oil/water temps constantly, even with road course driving, there is no significant change. This car seems to accept the under drive pulley far better than other vehicles I have used them on.

The water pump and alternator pulleys may be the same size as stock, so they're technically not "underdrive" pulleys, but they're probably much lighter. There should be some gain from the decreased moments of inertia.
