Kevin@MellonTuning's Stock Evo IX Build with pics and DLL dyno numbers
Welp I did it folks. I finally broke down and got myself an Evo. Here she is:
Picked her up on Saturday, June 6th. So far this car is amazing. I've already seen through Mellon's car the potential it can have so I plan to keep you guys informed as I build my car.
On Monday June, 15th I had a few things come in and few more have been ordered.
Mellon Tune www.MellonTuning.com
Greddy Profec B-Spec II (already here)
Innovate LC-1 w/ DB Red Gauge (already here)
Evo IX Floor Mats - Car came with Lancer mats lol
Buschur Racing - 3" Turboback Exhaust with Bullet Muffler and Test pipe
BR Intake and Filter
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump
Steering Column Pod
As of Thursday June, 18th; Mellon and I finally got to go out and mess with the car for a bit. For everyone to know the only "mods" done to the car is an aftermarket HKS filter and the spare tire/jack have been removed. Also I'm running the stock boost controlled by the stock solenoid with no wideband, boost gauge, etc. The car is basically stock. First things first was a base pull on the stock tune. Here's the result:
We then did a g-tech run:
60' 2.15
0-60 5.71
1/8th 9.13 @ 78.78
1/4 14.14 @ 99.12
- Due to the third or so launch I've done since having car. Obviously I need practice.
Mellon happened to find a tune from a previous customer who had been tuned on stock boost so we figured that would be a good starting point. A few pulls later and a few adjustments later we arrived at this:
A 16 hp and 11 ft lb of torque gain. Pretty amazing what adjusting the stock tune will do. As you can see it holds the hp up way out there where it was dropping off before.
After another g-tech run the car did:
60' 2.088
0-60 4.86
1/8 8.70 @ 83.11
1/4 13.55 @ 101.8
An improvement was seen everywhere from the first run. Notice, we dropped .59 secs and picked up 2.68 mph in the 1/4. Still need to work on those 60 ft's
We didn't get real critical on this tune as maybe there is a few hp left in it but I'll have mods coming in soon for another tune where we'll get real specific.

My parts list is basic bolt-ons. This is only the beginning my friend. Stick around for updates. We're planning to mess with the car a bit trying different things like just posting the results of adjusting the stock tune on stock boost having been tuned on the nb02.

Kevin I'm so excited about your project car, I can't friggin wait to tune it every step of the way. The current tune was a quick job since it's bone stock and it doesn't have a wb02 yet, I'm sure we could have gotten more out of it but I wanted to keep it very safe.
It'll be interesting to see what we can do with just a MBC and WB02 before the exhaust and after. You know I love my Buschur Bullet with test pipe!
