The TOB that comes with the ACT kits is a OEM TOB.

Got 15K plus on my HDSS installed by TurboTrix. I changed to SS clutch line, used the stock flywheel. Still going strong.

Yeah, I have heard some horror stories about people and their ACT clutches. A friend of mine with an 8 had one of their HD kits and he was getting constant lockouts at high RPMs. After doing my research about them, i decided to play it safe and spend a little more and get the Excedy Twin HD, but I am just using mine as a DD with an occasional launch here and there. I don't know why so many have problems, but others do not, all that I know is that if so many people have reported failures/lockouts/slipping something must be a little off... my 2c

No, I am pretty sure they are different. If you check out lancershop http://www.lancershop.com/customer/home.php?cat=113 they offer an ACT throwout bearing and right above it is an OEM throwout bearing.... And the ACT one is 10 bucks more than the stock one... hmmmm

A better question would be is do the OEM throwout bearings work with the ACT clutch kits? I am not sure on that one, maybe the bearing is the problem and just switching it up for a stock one will help the lockouts..?

i thought ive read that the tob used with them is not oem... have nothing to confirm this though.... on another note I think a lot of people are running act clutches so you will probably read more about failures..

when the shop was working on my tranny a couple months back...they made it a specific point to tell me that the tob that ACT provided in my kit was inadequate/weak when compared to the actual performance clutch kit it was matted to. They were surprised that ACT would provide such a meak tob they told me.

at the time all i could do was ::shrug::

ACT is a repackaged stock one.

I have 93k miles on my HDSS, and I shift at 7800 while on the track. I do not drag , but I road race and have launched at least 30-40 times over the last 5 years that I've been running this clutch. No problems at all, but I think that it is getting thin, I have to press the clutch pedal all the way to the floor to shift smoothly.
