What the heck is this pipe?

I have a 2006 MR, I bought it used so maybe it was involved in an accident but what is the pipe to the right of the Mitsubishi logo behind the grill? Also is it normal for older IXs to have a black pipe instead of a silver one? Is there a way to replace this?

I believe that it's your power steering cooling line.

I have the same thing on my JDM RS IX, I think it's for the AC system, and it comes like that, perfectly normal and I think it looks better than the black one I've seen in older evos.

I don't see a crash beam, unless you removed it that is a tale tale sign of front impact.

Also who runs a power steering cooler? That is a new one, I would have said headlight ballast fluid.

Sorry, should have explained I took that picture from another thread as an example. If mine is black does that mean I have an older Evo? My IX has a build date of October 2006

aftermarket intercooler...most this size require removal or heavy modification of the crash beam. most people end up removing it to save headaches

I have a IX 2006 model yet it is black. So I am asking if this is possible or does it mean my car was wrecked and replaced with older part? I have a 2006 October Build Evo IX MR but have a black tube instead of silver like most ther IXs

Just look for the VIN stickers on the body panels.

Hmmm, My ETS fits just fine with the crash beam, no modification, and enough efficiency to support 550 hp.

And yes it is an AC condensor line. What is the point of this post, to paint the AC line or leave it raw metal? Get a braided A/N line if your going for trick.

My original question was why my AC condenser pipe/line is black while every other IX I see has a silver pipe. Does that mean mine was replaced if teh older models have a black one?
